Why do some places that are small distance of each other have different climate zones. For example Hawaii big Island has more than one climate zone. It can be very rainy on one side of the island and very dry on the other side of the island. Is there a detailed scientific explanation for this?

If you live somewhere where the shortest day is only 4 hours its a hell of a lot more in summer than 16 hours. More like 20.London is 16 hours in june and there shortest day is 8 hours.
