I remember the first time I saw anything about this game. It was a small thumbnail on the last page of a “Tips and Tricks” issue.

I would have been 11 in 2001, and that little image alone blew my mind.

This game was a sleeper hit along with Halo 1 which came out around the same time. I remember this game not getting any hype from the gaming press except for Game Informer magazine. I believe most of the hype was on Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy 10, and Devil May Cry, as far as games scheduled to be released in the fall of 2001. GTA 3 and Halo wound up out selling all of them especially GTA 3 which out sold Halo. I bought GTA 3 the day it came out thanks to the extensive coverage by Game Informer mag.
