Explain One Klay: Thompson vetoes Kerr for his 1st basket on his big return; plus Klay's nasty dunk

It sure was fun watching Klay come back and put on the show in the 2022.01.09.CLE-GSW game. I just really enjoy watching Klay Thompson, play basketball, and I enjoy how much delight his teammates take in his success.

But there's an interesting story about his very first bucket in two and a half years. It came on the first play of the game and Steve Kerr said Klay was not originally supposed to shoot the ball. Then Steph Curry commented on Klay's changing the play and he gave a little bit more detail.

So I did a little investigating and I believe know what the original play was. This is a play that the Warriors have run a few times before and I've been calling it invert stagger, because there's always a stagger screen on top set by smalls. I’ll show you a couple of examples of the previous versions of the play, and then show you how Klay changed the play.

I pronounce this video to be officially KLAY-RIFFIC! So good to see him back. It makes me wonder how awful it would be if Eric was out for 2.5 years because of a severe finger injury that precluded him from editing videos. That's similar to how it's felt for Klay being gone for so long.

There is joy in Mudville today. Mighty Klay didn't strike out! The Warriors' shooting woes aren't over, but their defense carried them again, and Klay looked a whole lot like the Klay of yesteryear, albeit in limited minutes. This bodes well for the Warriors' championship aspirations!

And Kevon Looney didn't strike out, either. Looney was a monster against a team that was putting at least 4 players bigger than he is on the court. 18 rebounds. Box outs, blocks, altered shots, snatched balls, nice finishes near the rim, good passes. If the words 'trade Looney' ever come out of your mouth, head for the nearest reeducation camp, stake out a cot for yourself, and study whatever passes for a Little Red Book in the NBA. Don't ask Iguodala what to read, though, he'll probably suggest "The Rise and Fall of Gilded Age Capitalism." Learning what's wrong with monopolism probably won't help you to appreciate Looney's basketball accomplishments.

Awesome! i could not like these breakdowns more! It dovetails with something I was texting about with friends- namely that he opens up a lot for his teammates but also figures to play a little crazy like this- sort of anti the quick sharing the ball moving the ball thing that has been so successful- so its going to throw the offense for a loop at times.... but its totally worth it!
