Honestly a paid offline version of Pocket Camp without the micro transactions sounds amazing.

Some key takeaways from the End of Service Announcement:

They are moving to a one time purchase version of the game that doesn't require an online connection.

There seemingly won't be ANY online related features whatsoever. So no market box, visiting campsites, or any of the game's other "social" features.

In this new single player experience, all game features will be available without additional purchases. This means no memberships, leaf tickets, and other subscriptions or paid features.

You will be able to transfer your current save data to the new game, presumably bringing any progress and furniture, at least whatever carries over to the new game, with you.

My biggest gripe with phone games is the internet dependency. As someone who can't afford limitless data, it bothers me when the simplest of games *somehow* need wifi to even load.

So Pocket Camp going offline might be the exact thing I need to retry it 😂

The offline version is HUGE. I'm so happy to hear that they are at least preserving Pocket Camp. Hopefully they make it so you can unlock everything through a new currency or something rather than getting a neutered version of the game equipped with Loot Boxes.

After years of my phone not supporting it, I finally got a new phone that I specifically made sure supported it.. Oh well. I'm glad we have an offline version.

4:37 Actually Fire Emblem Heroes is their most popular mobile game. As it is the highest earning in terms of revenue. In 2023 it earned 4x the revenue Mario Kart Tour made that year. And I can't blame them. Despite how popular Mario is, nothing beats the gacha of cute and sexy anime style girls. And Fire Emblem has a ton of them. So it's gonna be a very long time before that game ends its service.

Goodbye pocket camp, I only used you to get enough points to get zelda picross.

I agree. The fact that these games are "always connected" bothers me so much. In London, commuting on public transport involves signal dead zones. But that is when I will most likely play mobile games.

dragalia lost being shut down was the world's biggest crime. please make an offline version of that one :(

If they did a StreetPass type sort of thing, maybe that could stick around if done right.

Nintendo making it into an offline build after they shut down the game's online (DRM requirement) services will finally incentivize me to play this game. Because one thing I hate about most "live-services" these days, are their need to have an "always online" internet connection.

Which sucks for someone like me who just wants to enjoy his game without the constant fear of getting disconnected out of nowhere mid play session. I know internet is pretty much in abundance (almost) everywhere these days. But still, not EVERYONE in the world has the privilege to live in those kinds of places.

for a lot of folks, this might be the first time theyve heard of the offline build, but i recall it being first executed for the gacha platformer Mega Man x Dive. it did everything a crappy greedy mobile game could do, but it also had a decent foundation of a mega man game in there. the offline build went up i think 2 weeks after the game was shuttered, and while it wasnt perfect (msrp was too high, though it went on sale quickly, save data was lost for pretty much all western players since save transfers were only in certain markets) i really liked the precedent it set. nintendo is probably going to do a better job in making sure most of its playerbase doesnt lose their data!

I really wanted to like Pocket Camp, but it fell victim to the mobile game plague, terrible monetization systems.

I cried when Nintendo shut down Nintendo 3DS online service this year, later in November I'll cry again for Pocket Camp because I've been playing it since day 1 😢

I'm glad you mentioned Dragalia Lost as an example, because all of us that played regularly at the time were so hoping for an Offline version, but it never came. And I really think Cygames would have let it happen if Nintendo gave the go-ahead. We have the private servers for it now, but man it's not really the same...

Fire Emblem Heroes is by far their most popular mobile game btw, any time I see the bar graph showing its revenue it's insane to see how much more its made than the others. Their mobile endeavors were probably worth it for that alone lol
