That's the art style of a lot of early 2000's anime. That's just the way they looked and you have to look past it. Plus it's the after story that's the masterpiece. If you can make through the first series, which is an alright but fairly generic slice of life, you're in for a real treat with Clannad After Story of extreme highs and lows but a rewarding ending. It doesn't work if you're younger with a very low attention span from a technology addiction. You have to slow down and start enjoying the beauty that you find in the real world to get a sense of it

The first part of clannad is nothing special, almost generic so your take is valid but the 2nd part is where the series becomes incredible. It shows what life's like for the main character after high-school, how dark and lonely it can be while feeling like you can not do anything about your current situation but it also shows off the beauty and joy life can bring. S2 is an emotional roller coaster.

It's completely fine if you didn't enjoy Clannad, everyone has different tastes. But the way you're dismissing the show and mocking its characters suggests you didn't even try to give it a fair chance. Instead of laughing at its visuals, you could have focused on the story, a story that has moved millions of people to tears worldwide and deals with themes like loss, grief, and family in a way few other mediums can match.

The character designs might not be to everyone's liking, but calling them 'pedophile' is not only disrespectful but also a gross misinterpretation. Anime often uses exaggerated and stylized designs, that doesn't automatically make the characters childlike. Nagisa, the character you're criticizing, is meant to symbolize innocence and fragility, qualities that play a vital role in the narrative. Instead of dismissing the design as weird, maybe consider how it complements the story.

As for the animation, Clannad came out during a time when Kyoto Animation didn't have massive budgets, but even then, it was packed with heart and effort. That becomes clear in the emotional scenes, where subtle movements and facial expressions deliver powerful impact. Just because the art style isn't your preference doesn't mean it's objectively bad.

In the end, your laughter says more about your lack of maturity than it does about Clannad's quality. Maybe instead of tearing something down for a few cheap laughs, you should ask yourself why so many people love this work. Art deserves respect, even if it's not your thing.

Clannad is actually the only anime I rewatched without showing it to someone else, it’s my all time favourite ever since I watched it for the first time almost 12 years ago. Yeah the art style might seem off when compared to modern anime but the story is what really gets you. I mean the first season is good but more generic and more chill, After Story however….that’s a different story. This one will destroy you but you have to watch the first season to really get to know the characters to feel the pain.
