Lowes and Home Depot are the same way. It’s missing the one thing you need to make the tool work and they mark it down like 3 dollars.

I've seen one of these at lowes the other day. 10% off and missing 33.3% of the product 🤣🤣

They are missing because when someone comes in for a warranty exchange, they pull it from a new box and clearance the rest of the box.

Caught hf askin $50 for a openbox driver when you could get a new one on clearance for $35 lmao

They mark them down $10 for the missing 10mm and 13mm

Buy full price and enjoy the luxury of swapping out damaged ones. That’s why these have missing pieces. To fulfill their warranties.

To be fair, snap on, matco, and Mac are all asking way too much for their stuff.

Still can find some good deals there and the thing about open box items is that every two weeks from the date of being put on the shelf they get marked down another 20% because it's corporate policy.
If it's not marked down from that date, you can ask an employee to do so.

If Harbor Freight sold the individual size wrenches and sockets separately. They wouldn't have to open up a new set to warranty out one product. Most of the stores will have The individual sizes for sale by themselves

I've never found an open box item worth buying at harbor freight. I don't think they care if they sell or not so they can just keep robing tools out of the set for warrantys

As someone who worked at freight, a lot of the times we’re only allowed to give up to a 20% off on stuff that’s open box. Sometimes we do give more than 20% to get rid of them but sometimes it’s not enough

Their bargain shelves are never a bargain

Harbor freight is pricing their self right out of business

They are expensive but they are actually quality tools

Harbor Freight has lost their mind on pricing. Their customer base is very price conscious. I used to buy many things at HF just in case I might find a use because it was so affordable. Now i better have a burning need otherwise I’ll find a different way to do the job.

Always check power tool condition BEFORE you buy at HF. I open the box in the store…
Way too many people use their tools then clean them up to return them. Or, you get that tool that someone swapped with their broken one. When you try to return it, they will think it was you who used it. Bought a 1hp well pump and opened it in the store to see brown water and the plastic seal broken on the valve

Those Harbor Freight incomplete clearance toolsets you looked at are very likely the husks of "lifetime warranty fulfilment pickin's". Someone came in with a bad wrench, they snagged a replacement from a set, marked the rest down only marginally, and threw them onto the pile. My hunch is that they may not even BE particularly eager to sell them, so they can just pick at them for future warranty replacements as needed. The REAL bargains at Horror Fright are typically either returns or discontinued (or soon-to-be-discontinued) items. For example, for just $4 I got what turned out to be a great little ¼ inch drive DrillMaster 18V impact wrench that uses the same battery as their once ubiquitous drills. I half suspected it might just be crap, but it turned out to be one of my favorite cordless tools, with more than sufficient "Oompf!" for my modest needs. Sadly, they've since canned the whole DrillMaster line and no longer even sell the batteries or chargers, even by mail order, which is truly the MOST annoying thing they do. They really should support their legacy products. I mean, how hard could it be to order a batch of batteries now and then? Fortunately, I grabbed a half dozen of those 18V NiCads just to tide me over before they disappeared from the shelves forever several months ago. The other real bargains come, depending on the store, during some, though not all, of those "Sidewalk Sales". Not only do the managers get far wider latitude to really mark stuff down, but Corporate will actually ship pallets of overstock or soon-to-be updated gear to flog at fire sale prices. That's how I got one of those 1, 500 Pound Motorcycle/ATV Lifts and one of those 48 in Workbenches for something crazy like $11 each. They had stacks of the things. Another time I grabbed one of their older model 90 Amp Flux Wire Welders for under $60 just before they came out with the 125 Amp ones. It works well enough for a spatterer like me! And I don't have 220 handy anyhow.

I've seen a socket set with multiple missing and they marked it off like $2. You save 2 dollars, have missing sockets, and no longer have a warranty or return policy? What a steal!

They are quality but not worth the price tag. Nobody else noticed this.. the old 18 dollar Pittsburg breaker bar 1/2 inch drive I love mine had it for like 2 years now taken lots of abuse I look in harbor freight the other day and they don’t sell it anymore instead they sell an “icon” breaker bar with the same grip and everything just different name for 50 dollars…

It's not clearance. It's Open Box. Lifetime Exchanges or Packaging Issues. They swap out replacements from product in the Store, and then Open Box the remaining. Prices are SUPPOSED to be lowered every 2 weeks, but some stores get lazy.
