This guy really described the state of learning about deep learning: most of the tutorials involve abstract networks and equations that don't map to any kind of comprehensible reality to a beginner, but a good convolutional tutorial can explain much more clearly how neurons pull features out of a dataset and then work with those larger blocks to produce even larger blocks.


And deep learning is absolutely "concept soup" right now: the stark contrast between how easy it is to write a neural network and how hard it is to understand them can leave most people feeling like they're taking 6 months to learn five minutes worth of material - but nobody even bothers to tell you that!
