Показать описание
Dr Jeremy Tātere MacLeod, Ngāti Kahungungu, mastermind behind the first Māori language festival Toitū Te Reo, held in August in Heretaunga, Hastings, was brought up in Australia, away from his turangawaewae in Hawke’s Bay New Zealand. As a child he became interested in his whakapapa after watching haka on VHS. At 17, he moved to New Zealand to study te reo Māori including at te Panekiretanga o Te Reo under Tā Timoti Kāretu, and now he’s a well-known Māori leader and reo champion. Thousands attended the two day symposium and festival, including the Māori Queen te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po, Tame Iti and many tamariki and rangatahi. Jeremy was supported by Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst and the district council, Ngāti Kahungungu Chairman Bayden Barber, and his wife Te Rina. The coalition Government, Christopher Luxon, Winston Peters, and David Seymour, has meanwhile brought in an English first policy for the names of Government departments, seen as an attack on the Māori language. Jeremy reveals his ADHD diagnosis, and he recently spoke at the tangi of Kiingi Tuheitia.
