The events of the past year have laid bare many of the long-standing inequities and challenges facing communities of color, including but not limited to health and economic disparities, racist violence, and political repression. They also illuminated the strength of BIPOC-led movements, from Stacey Abrams' historic voter registration efforts to the environmental conservation leadership of Xiuhtezcatl Martinez. While philanthropy can play a key role in helping to overcome these racial inequities, this cannot be done without the direction of BIPOC nonprofit leaders who work with affected communities. This panel explored the experiences of several BIPOC nonprofit leaders with the philanthropic sector, how they have changed since Spring 2020, and how philanthropists can more effectively support the missions of BIPOC-led nonprofits moving forward.
