How To Renegade a Beer Can (THUMB GUN)

Renegade is a term that roughly means "to punch a hole in a can with your thumb so you can shotgun it."

I learned this trick back in 2013. Here’s how it works:

1) Get a cold can of beer (or pop).

2) Find the spot where you’re going to drink from. The target will be an inch from the bottom of the can.

3) Grab the bottom of the can with your dominant hand and place your thumb at a 90 degree angle to the can.

4) Tilt the can downwards. As the can lowers, an air pocket will form where the thumb meets the can.

5) Gradually increase pressure as you extend your arm down. Apply maximum pressure when your arm is fully extended.

Tips:

1) Use a cold can.

2) Keep your nail trimmed (ironically this works better than a longer nail and helps avoid slicing your thumb). The surface area of your thumb tip creates the pressure to puncture the can.

3) To conserve liquid, angle the can down to 45 degrees.

4) Yes, this gets messy. Do this outside (or inside, IDGAF).

5) It’s not about strength, it’s about technique.

best tutorial for this on youtube, and it’s only 10 seconds long. watched a bunch of other videos and couldn’t figure it out until this one. if you’re having trouble, shake the can before trying it and make sure to have the can tab at a 90 degree angle. then just slowly drop the can and dig your thumb in like he does. now i can do it every try with ease, and you won’t hurt yourself if you’re doing it right.
