(24 Feb 2023) Russia's invasion of Ukraine has covered a large part of the country's territory. This animation shows areas occupied each day by Russian forces and areas recaptured in Ukrainian counteroffensives. Ukraine is readying another push with weapons from the West. (Feb. 24)

The most critical part was the first offensive when the Russians plunged their forces into Kyiv, but failed to take it. Now, Ukraine has driven them out and now locked in on the Eastern front.
This could last years.
