How Long Does The STIHL GTA 26 Battery Last? (Not Very)

The STIHL GTA 26 looks like a million bucks (or $149.95, more accurately), but how long will the 10.8 volt battery last? We test it three ways with disappointing results:

Real World Test #1: 7 minutes 44 seconds run-time. (starts 1:53)
Real World Test #2: 9 minutes 11 seconds run-time. (starts 28:42)
No Load Test: 18 minutes 19 seconds run-time. (starts 9:40)

I have no idea what you did wrong, but after I fully charged my Stihl GTA26, it last 28:16 (minutes and seconds). I love this pruning tool. It is amazing!

Brad, So I used this tool for a day (Loaner from my dealer) and found that it wasn't something that would work for my company. The tasks that are associated with this tool are the same tasks that you can accomplish with a set of pruners or a pole saw, in my opinion much faster. Great video!

Had mine a few weeks and watched the video. Not sure if I would use it like that. More to trim branches and cut up bush. So far I've need very please with it. Another battery is only £30, so may get a couple of extras.

I purchased a GTA-26 for use on my offroad equipment (snowmobile and SxS). We often run on abandoned logging roads in both winter and summer and find ourselves having to deal with smallish fallen trees and branches across the trail. While I always have a full sized chainsaw on the machine to deal with anything big, I have set the GTA-26 up in a drill holster that I can quickly pull out and lop off a branch or deal with a sapling across the trail. So far I have found the GTA-26 works exactly as I hoped it would. I am able to lop off annoying branches without leaving the seat of my snowmobile and easily cut through saplings up to about two inches. I have not tried the GTA-26 in extreme cold weather yet but at -5C the battery did not appear to suffer any climate related losses. I have two spare batteries on order but so far I am very happy with the little saw's runtime and performance.

As for using it in a commercial application, I agree that most will likely find the GTA-26 woefully inadequate.

Thanks for testing the run times for us.

Wonder if Stihl will come out with higher capacity batteries like the Milwaukee line has. What's the duty cycle rating on it.

I think this is marketed to the homeowners or folks who really like to garden. I wouldn't buy this for my landscape crews, but I would buy it for myself in my yard. Maybe they put this out there first to see how it does before they do one more commercial use.

That thing looks sweet, can’t wait to buy one, it would be perfect for pruning small trees if you are on a ladder and you just want to clean it up, thanks for the review

Thanks for the amazing demonstration. I feel this tool is best for branch pruning rather than trunk pruning. Cutting dried palm fauns not so good. agree? (Hendrika)

I know those trees feel highly disrespected. Like, "I know damn well this guy isn't cutting us down with that little ass chainsaw! " 😅🤣🤣🤣😂

i'll just buy new batteries for my 18volt nicad Porter Cable Recipsaw. With it & a Skill The Ugly blade the combination has served me well for 12+ years or so.

thanks for the good review, I am disapoonted with the run time on this thing.

That would actually be perfect for the yearly mountainbike trail clearing. Was thinking of buying a 200€ chainsaw backpack but I guess I will just by this for 150€ and make a holster for it. 😂👌

I'm just not a Stihl fan of any type. I generally prefer Echo products for heavy duty jobs, WORX battery products for light duty. Always good info on your videos Brad👍

Perfect for a single woman with acreage. By the time I am too tired to go further, the battery dies. It’s just right. This was never meant for a landscape company.

How much is a spare battery. Did it get everything pruned off an average tree?
