Welcome to a strong El NIno which followed 2 years of La Nina.
When you go from negative numbers to postivie numbers in a short period of time you actually get twice the effects, IMO. I remember hearing about El Nino in the 1970's which was blamed for oranges freezing. I also recall other times over the years that people complained about storms during El NIno times.
Of course these events do not generally fit the latent stream media with their "message?"
Oh, and I don't recall any complaints about La Nina at all except claims of cold winters and droughts in certain areas, I think. Of course one can say anything if they ignore enough other things, maybe?
