This trailer makes it seem like this is yet another movie that says it's about an autistic character, but is actually about the family of an autistic character.

Autistic boy here, I am high functioning, so take this with grains of salt. I love the first seconds of this, it felt connecting and like the movie was actually going to be about the kid with autism. The hats special interest is cute and relatable (I had a special interest of suits when I was younger) and the actor for the boy seems to play the role well. But as it goes on it seems like the movie won't be about the actual kid, and instead about his family. Yes, autism definitely impacts the family, but it impacts the child even more. The family seem to be portrayed as victims or martyrs for caring for the boy, but that's what they should do, he's their kid! I wish films would focus more on the actual children themselves, the problems they have, how them AND their family overcome it. Not just how the family sees the traits as something to be ashamed and on edge about.

I've been looking into this film and I found something interested. This movie was original filmed back in 2020 and originally had a set release date of 2022 but it got pushed back for an 'unspecified reason'.
Seeing this trailer now. I have a strong hunch as to what that reason was: The backlash around Sia's 'Music', which came out in February of 2021 and was heavily criticized by the autistic community.

CALLED IT! Movie is about the dad getting over addiction and his son is a like magic inspirational puppy. Adding onto that is just… a LOT of iffy moments. Austin’s also in a wheelchair a bunch cuz he’s also got brittle bone disease and there’s just… so, so much yikes

Heartfelt story. Listened to the interview with Levi and Glenn Beck about the movie. Can't wait to see it! We need more family movies to bring us all together to laugh and cry at the same things. I miss the days where we had community, good common sense, and better values.

It's a positive movie that sees joy and happiness in rare places. If you have an autistic child of someone on the spectrum, they are marvelous human beings, they see awesome things when normaly regular people see despair, they are also very smart
sensitive people.
Anyway, go enjoy a very uplifting movie instead of chaos, crime, terror and ugly drama, we have enough of that today in our world.

My son Ricky is a 39 year old autistic, non verbal man. He has framed every day of my entire life. He has affected my life, made my life incredibly challenging and rewarding. (His father left when he was diagnosed at around 18 months...couldn't deal with it...) I do everything I can to make him smile, connect, have fun and enjoy his every day. But he, and I am sure of it, is the main character in HIS story. He is the main character of mine. I think if a movie was to be made about OUR story it might feature a LOT about the interesting things that have happened to me and how growing up raising a special needs child, (I was only 18 when I got pregnant), created an interesting story of a life for me. But I think HIS story would be too challenging to tell, from his perspective, I mean. Hopefully, people connect and reflect from the story of this family. I wonder if Ricky's dad will see it and reflect on the choices he made. I am looking forward to seeing this film. And I just adore Zachary Levi.
