REEF SAFE SUNSCREENS! | Which sunscreens are safe + my mineral/physical sunscreen recommendations!

Today I'm talking all about reef safe sunscreens, which sunscreens are reef safe, the different types of sunscreens ( mineral, chemical, and combination) and how each can affect the reefs! I also give some recommendations for some great drugstore reef safe, mineral/physical sunscreens for the face and body! I also wanted to address how much I butchered the word “octocrylene” so many times in this video😂 If you have any questions, please leave them down below! I completely discovered this whole thing bc I bought my daughter some baby sunscreen and when I felt it I immediately thought “there’s no way this is good for the ocean”. It felt greasy and disgusting. So I googled it and low and behold, it’s not (and it’s got the worst ingredient) and turns out— a whole bunch of others I’ve used aren’t either.

I’m so surprised more people don’t know about this and/or aren’t talking about this. I just accidentally discovered that most aren’t reef safe and ended up on this video bc you’re one of the only people giving actual recommendations. Anyway I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to educate people who may not even know it’s a problem and for putting in the work of actually giving us recommendations. And drug store recommendations at that 😫 The only other recs I could find were like $50 a bottle.

I was so overwhelmed trying to remember all the chemicals that aren’t safe while I was researching bc a whole bunch of the ones that start with “oxy-“ are bad but apparently a few are fine. I was losing it. I would’ve never found a sunscreen I felt sure about using if I hadn’t found this 😅

I bought the copper tone sunscreen! And I’ve looked at the formula for the zinc ones and they all seem to be the exact same honestly, but I really love how it doesn’t smell like anything and the white cast isn’t horrible it’s very tolerable if you rub it in good and let it sink in it really isn’t bad! I have a medium skin tone but it can feel greasy when you put it on at first but you just have to let it dry down for awhile and I rather have this then spend so much on a sunscreen

I have the Banana Boat Simply Protect Sensitive and it says that it is mineral enriched but it has 6.0% Octocrylene. I found that this ingredient can accumulate in coral and could impair it's metabolism.
