Dr. Lisa Indar, Director, of Surveillance, Disease Prevention and Control at CARPHA, explained that a six-member delegation will be conducting the site visits and stakeholder trainings, as well as other capacity-building activities this week. She added that convenience and confidentiality are two of the major benefits of using the system. Meanwhile, Eddie Herrera, Tourism Officer, Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, stressed that collaboration between the sectors is important given the importance of tourism to Belize’s overall economy.

Apart from this, the Regional Tourism and Health Program uses a mobile application, the establishment of policies and standards, and routine capacity-building activities to strengthen the region's ability to safeguard tourism from health threats. CARPHA also partnered with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) to establish a Traveler’s Health Assurance Award for hotels that use the THiS and complete the required training.
