One of the most catastrophic Dyno failures we've seen before!

We went from celebrating a clean pass at 2920 and our 48re holding up on the highest horsepower record on a chassis dyno for a diesel to watching a worst case scenario we are so grateful everyone was ok through all this.

I think the fire extinguisher guy has been waiting for this moment for years lmao

Nobody is giving props to the guy on the pedal. You can tell he's had practice getting blown out of trucks before. Best exit ever

This truck belonged to Shawn Becca. Truck was pushing 2, 985 hp, and over 5, 000 lb ft of torque to the rear wheels, from a custom Cummins turbo diesel engine. Transmission was a custom 48re with manual valve body, and full billet input, intermediate, and output shafts. With billet, manual valve body, billet pumps, and manual lock up billet torque converter. Transmission was custom tuned to be a 2 speed power glide for drag racing, but could be retuned to shift into all 4 gears for other applications. Drag racing, the truck had so much power that, the transmission would only last 2 passes before needing to be rebuilt, with all new billet parts. This dyno run was Shawn’s attempt to break past the 3, 000hp line. 3, 000 hp seems to be the limit before total engine explosion, because of the strength availability of the billet parts. Coupled with the intense high compression ratio of a diesel engine, especially one at the level of this truck. The hp reading on the dyno at the time of the explosion was 2, 999 hp. Meanwhile Lavon Miller, out of Ohio, built a Cummins engine, that broke past the 3, 000 hp line, but the engine was running out of a truck on an engine dyno stand, and it pushed 3, 115 hp to the crank, when it exploded in the engine dyno room. The video of it shows the block actually cracked apart around the cylinders, and the entire upper half of the engine blew off, and got about 3 feet of air time, and when the smoke cleared, the crankshaft was still spinning in its bearings, and pistons and connecting rods were flaring around until crankshaft stops spinning for like 3 seconds. So it seems that the only problem now is block strength. The pressures of turbo charging boost, and the massive amounts of compression ratio, is cracking the physical block apart to be blown off.

Too much boost, engine block said " Imma head out now", as did the heads, pistons, rods, bearings, valves, etc etc

This is the first time I've seen someone ACTUALLY blowing up an engine.
