A group of Jews and Arabs coming from Jerusalem bind the two parts of the city during the 29 Florence Marathon.
To demonstrate to the world how sport and dialogue take together people and religions opening prospective of hope and peace, 8 runners will create a peace march during the sport event in Florence.
The meeting has taken place Friday, November 23rd, 2012 at 10.00 a.m. in front of the Jewish Temple in Florence where the Peace Team has been welcome by the Chief Rabbi of Florence, Rav Joseph Levi and some representative of the Jew Community of the city.
The group, coming from Jerusalem, has run from the Synagogue to the Mosque of Florence where they have been welcome by the Imam of Florence Izzedim Elzir and the Islamic Community.
After they have arrived in Palazzo Vecchio -- Piazza della Signoria -- with a press conference in the Sala Incontri at the presence of the Jerusalem runners, the religious authorities of the two Community, the President of the Florence Marathon, Mr. Giancarlo Romiti, the Councillor for Youth Policy of the Municipality of Florence, Mrs. Cristina Giachi, the President of Maccabi Italia, Mr. Vittorio Pavoncello, the President of Opera del Tempio Ebraico, Mr. Renzo Funaro and the President of ENZO B Onlus, Mrs. Cristina Nespoli.
During the press conference has been shown a video message of the Mayor of Jerusalem Mr. Nir Barkat to Mr. Matteo Renzi, Mayor of Florence.
The event has been promoted by the Association ENZO B Onlus and its twin ENZO B ISRAEL a no profit organization for more than 20 year engaged in promoting the children rights, the support to children care in several countries in the world and in the process of inter country dialogues.
The Florence Marathon , the Municipality of Florence with the collaboration of Maccabi Nazionale, the Opera del Tempio Ebraico of Florence and Plus Hostel Florence has been partners in the reception of the 8 Jew and Palestinian runners.
To fulfill the twinning between the two marathons a Florence delegation will be guest of Jerusalem on March 1st, 2013, during the third Jerusalem Marathon.
