Over the past one hundred years, caches of gold coins from the nineteenth century have been found buried on the remote and eerie island of Adak. The entire pirate treasure, most of which has not been found, has an estimated value of $365 Million. Mayor Tom Spitler is assembling a team of experienced treasure hunters to search for the booty, which proves to be a trecherous task as Adak is littered with unexploded bombs left over from WWII. Luckily, the mayor himself happens to be specially trained in bomb removal - but will that be enough? They could get rich, but they might die trying.

Government figured it out first in 1983 and took the whole top of the mountain off to get to the gold. Used the wind shear near the airport as a cover story. These folks found some scraps. The main stash of gold is sitting in Fort Knox.

Gotta love how the coins they “found” were basically flawless 🤔😒

This show was more comedy than anything else.

The military would have spent a lot of time checking that hill for any UXOs before moving that much dirt. I reckon they found it and it’s been kept a secret.

They found more on Adak island in 8 episodes than what Oak Island found in 9 seasons but it seems the person that found the gold left a gold coin in the can for respect to the pirate that left it there

Trust me this show will go on without finding anything.

My husband and I lived on Adak Dec 64-June 66...He was a CT and I taught on base school third grade! Never heard of the gold, but knew there were unexploded mines...keep this going...so much on Alaska but very little on the Aleutians...the forgotten war.

Wow! I lived in Adak when I was a kid. Kuluk housing. Caribou Court. My dad was stationed there in 1980 for the Navy. He says he doesn't remember anything about hidden gold.

I was stationed at Adak three times between 1979 & 1992 with Naval Security Group Activity,
Company I Marine Support Battalion; which was located on Bering Hill. Worked at the Gun & Zeto Point. During off time, I explored all over the island. There is no place in the world like Adak & it was one of my favorite duty stations!

In all that time, I never heard about any pirate gold. Hmmm?

I lived on Adak from ‘92 to ‘94 when I was in the Navy. I never heard any thing about gold on the island until this show came along. Appears to me it’s just a story someone conjured up to try to sell a TV show.

I watched this last night.
I enjoyed it as entertainment, but:
To my knowledge it was never explained why anyone thought that two found cans of gold mean't where there were obviously 148 more to be found?
Also, to mine own eyes the convenient 'stone' direction pointers looked like designs scraped in wet concrete?
Also, the charming Dr Geologist lady suddenly appeared with a proper core-sampler and therefore wasn't using the one that the two guys made, which made me suspicious of the rest of the jeopardy... As did the later appearance of a HUGE second digger.
The editing and sound were amazing as I was gripped.
I didn't quite buy it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it... So I say it's a win NETFLIX. These are the things you do best! 🏆
Best wishes from an English medieval armour restorer in a French forest. ⚒️⚔️🇬🇧
