CNC Project - DIY Rack Mount Firewall/Router - Part 1

A two part CNC project to custom machine a rack mount chassis to house a pfsense firewall/router. Time to take control of the data being harvested out of my network.

The parts came to £229 - quite a bit cheaper than a Cisco or Juniper offering :-)

You can also put pf sense on a ready-built appliance like an old watchguard. I got one on facebook market place with pf sense on already for £75 all in. Looks good in my rack too!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing this video. I don't know your channel, but this video popped up in my suggestions and since I like build videos this was pretty interesting. I only have a minor correction. pfSense is based on FreeBSD which is not Linux. You might have unintentionally irritated a number of people there.

Thanks again.

Cheers

@I_Made_This dono how old this vid is but wouldn't it be a good idea to put some vents on the right of the case as you have got an exhaust fan at the top and a small one with the psu but no intake ?

This is an interesting project. I have an old Silverstone SUGO which I could use for something like this. Would it be possible to also run a NAS from such system if needed?

What type of machine do you use?

I'm pondering upgrading my X-Carve, but I am torn based upon both rigidity and the belt system.

Could you please give us a tour of your CNC rig?
