I guess the Frappuccino is the only thing that’s actually under sanctions 🙃

It's the same for EU purchasing higher priced oil products from Russia through countries like China, India, Saudi, UAE, Turkey etc despite the sanctions on Russia.

That's simple: Brands didn’t want to leave. It's a huge money, after all. They were forced to pretend that they had left, simply so that they would not be blamed, canceled and blah-blah-blah. Policy.

To be honest Starbucks coffee sucks. I tasted it in a few countries. The coffee in a local coffee shop is way better and cheaper than Starbucks

Iran was a huge export market for American cars before 1979. You still see them there they are bought in DUBAI and then sold in Iran. The largest Corvette owners club outside the USA Is in IRAN. This kind of importing is called the GRAY MARKET, meaning products are imported unofficially outside the channel done by the manufacturer or registered importer.

So the corporates will always find loopholes.

I called this way back when the sanctions started to take place. Corporations could careless about politics and just want money to appease shareholders in return for more money.

Hey, Starbucks and Zara actually left. They sold their businesses to local or foreign companies. StarsCoffee is a local brand, although they kept a similar branding, they are not allowed to use any of Starbucks's technology. MAAG is owned by a Turkish company and sells completely different clothing from a different vendor, the quality is different too. I'm Russian and have lived in Russia my whole life, so I can tell the difference

The companies pulled out, but Russians just bought the old locations and run things as usual. Most things are already locally sourced anyways.

Back when the sanctions first hit and the luxury brands disappeared overnight, a bunch of people made a killing by flying to Turkey or the UAE, stocking up on designer bags, and reselling them for a 200% markup on Avito (a Russian Craigslist if you must).

During sanctions in South Africa one of the largest department stores was born in the country - Stuttafords

Stuttafords specialised in offering all the global brands despite sanctions.

When sanctions ended and the brands started selling and importing directly, Stuttafords went under.

Moral of the story ! Russia, china, India, Arab countries need to come up with new brands . Not depend on US or western countries

Zara ( owned by Inditex) sold their brand to a new owner from Lebanon. Maag have rights to make clothes that look exactly like Zara's.

But this resale is only valid for 5 years (until 2028), so after 5 years, Zara can still return to Russia under its real name. Maag will still have the right to operate individually. Currently, Inditex still enjoys a small portion of the profits from Maag.

Brands love to virtue signal publicly but all they care about are the profits.

They didn't stay. They sold their business. I also read many bad reviews about MAAG.

Lancet Burger is amazing. Slow in coming, but the end result is mind blowing.
