Rick and Morty is a modern puppet-based 2D animated show.
A lot of people have this idea that using rigs and puppets is "cheating" and that every frame should be custom-drawn like in the Disney golden age. But that's not the case. Television does not have big budgets, it can use all the help it can get. The original Scooby-Doo was all hand-drawn. So was He-Man. Did those look better than Rick and Morty?
Computer and puppet rigs help lift some of the weight so animators can focus their time and energy on the key shots that matter most. In Rick and Morty's case, I don't think this technology holds them back at all, it's an incredible show that sets for the bar for modern puppet-based 2D-animated television. #shorts
