Directed by Daniel Mann (Come Back Little Sheba, The Rose Tattoo). The screenplay was adapted by Charles Schnee and John Michael Hayes from the 1935 novel by John O'Hara (Pal Joey).
Taylor won her first Academy Award for her performance in the film, a film she is said to have loathed, and an award she conceded was likely given due to her having narrowly survived a bout of pneumonia that year that required an emergency tracheotomy.
