Things EVERYONE Did in the 1960s... But Are Now Banned

The 1960s, a decade of change, liberation, and vibrant cultural shifts, is often looked back upon with a mix of nostalgia and amazement. As we rummage through the treasure chest of the past, it's intriguing to find that several norms and practices, once ubiquitous in the 60s, have since been consigned to the pages of history, not just because of changing times but because they're now actually banned! Let’s take a walk down memory lane and explore eight iconic activities that everyone did in the 60s but are now prohibited.

In the 50s we had glass soda bottles that were returned to be refilled instead of plastic bottles to go into the landfill

In the 50s and 60s we collected bottles along the roadside and turned them in for 1 or 2 cents a bottle. The bottles were recycled and we kids had a little spending money.

I was born in 1955. I was recently asked by a young man (who was around 25), "What did you do when you were a kid, and you didn't have a smart phone?". Well, I responded that we had a blast running around outside and experiencing the world around us. I absolutely hate getting old, but I would not trade my childhood with that of recent generations whatsoever.

Remember sweety cigatettes for little kids. Either rice paper wrapped chocotate, with a red end to look like a cigarette, or 2inch long white candies with a red end, sold in a small box to look like cigatettes.

I'm a 70's kid and I think that ways we were miles ahead environmentally. Returnable bottles and a fraction of the plastic waste like today. Many products came in paper packaging. I miss drinking from glass bottles. Good video.

Playgrounds weren't unsafe in the 1960s. Uncontrollable fear now runs rampant in society.

Kids today would be so TRIGGERED by everything we did back in the 60s and 70s.

The use and throwaway is wrong in one big aspect. Back then, almost everything was repairable and meant to last. It quickly became the norm to manufacture in planned obsolescence and the inability to fix things. I think we are worse off today because of that.

I used to ride in the bed of my dad's truck all the time. I didn't even have a seat, let alone a seatbelt. And spent most of the time standing up.

It was also a time when lawsuits were rare. Until people started suing each other, a lot of things went unregulated.

I remember how grown up I felt when my dad would send me to the corner store to buy him a pack of cigarettes. Nowadays you can't buy a marker pen until you are eighteen.

I'm 55 and i remember when i had to buy cigarettes and matches for my uncle. The salesman said: "You can have cigarettes, but matches are too dangeruos for a small child"😀

We used to get the merry go round spinning so fast you could hang horizontally out from it from the centrifugal force...🤣

I miss the 60s. Life might not have been "safer", but people learned to take care of themselves instead of expecting the entire world to take care of each entitled individual.

As a 76 year old. I am not aware of cycle helmets even being available in thr 1960s

And we were all much happier for it, not to mention real freedom. Is society happier today??

I think if discipline was still there as a deterrent we might have a generation of people that knew how to behave.
