Updating my firewall from ClearOS to PFSense 2.1

After a bit of research, I'm moving from ClearOS to PFSense. In this video, I'll talk to you about why I'm switching.

PFsense is a open-source firewall that's pretty powerful. Eventually I'm going to configure it to encrypt all of my network traffic via a service through Private Internet Access.

Have you set it up yet? You have made me purchase a subscription from them and I have configured this on my own pfSense box, its a shame that they don't do affiliate links. It works really well. Thank you for letting me know about this.

How is you pfsense Firewall holding up ?  Are you ready for another small upgrade ?  Would you go for a dual or quad Ethernet connection to your switch ?  The web is so slow so this would be for redundancy than for speed.  Would the firewall keep the NSA honest and keep them and hackers out of my computer !  (Make the NSA and others get a court order to spy on my computer and keep them honest)  Linus and others have videos on speeding up your internet with used quad port server cards from ebay...   Thank you for a great video !  tjl

Doesn't PIA only support up to Blowfish CBC (which is OLD and not secure any longer) for 'dd-wrt' setups like using pfsense etc? I got a month of PIA then discovered that the dd wrt encryption is weak. I also learned that ddwrt routers are powerful enough for dedicated vpn encryptions (bottleneck), so I am building a pfsense box myself (quad cpu+8gb ram+ssd+Shuttle DS61). I am ending up going to get AirVPN as it is my 2nd choice for provider next to PIA, and they offer higher level encryption to ddwrt like setups.

While that same Tek Syndicate video is what inspired me to give pfsense a shot, their video actually quite terrible. They skip or gloss over some rather important steps.

good choice i tried clear os and it was just crap. put pfsense on my firewall and have never looked back
