Autodesk Inventor vs. Dassault 3D CAD

TechniCom, a respected CAD analyst firm, has published the results of a study they conducted comparing 15 core user capabilities. The study revealed that Inventor 2011 beat Dassault® SolidWorks in every category, proving of course what I already knew... Have a look.

Nice to see that you are excited about the study. I personally believe that Inventor is better than SolidWorks, but I'm quite sceptical about the results of the study since the study is sponsored by autodesk. I would like to see same kind of results from independent research.

Cheers,

Niko

As a solidworks user i agree with that... last couple years inventor takes every part of cad design to different level... great video thanks :)

What you say may be true, however, It is still let down by thread tooling or the lack there of for 3-D printing.

@socialjunsu - Inventor is mainly for industrial part design (for prototyping, manufacturing, etc.). Maya (like 3ds Max, Softimage, Blender, etc.) is aimed mainly at the entertainment industry (i.e., character animation, special effects, etc.). You can transfer models between them, but they're really designed for very different tasks.

used Inventor, SW, Pro-E, Autocad in school and on the job and i love SW much more than any of the others. hard to learn at first but once mastered you can quickly branch off and learn the other systems, plus imports all the others easily.

I think youtube should have a bucket where we can place our golden videos.

Hi Rob, and thanks for your videos. I am an an inventor user in a Catia V5/Inventor design suite split environment. It is always a big discussion here that With larger assemblies, Inventor slows to a crawl.(example, halfway on an ATV-type project, mirroring a tyre takes 10 mins, decent specced PC.) While the Catia users say they could have the master open at all times, no serious problem, just a bit slower over time. I know Catia is a much more expensive product, but still; comments, please?

As mentioned above, Blender is mainly an animation package, it's not aimed at industrial simulations.

@MrTauro1919 At 1:03, I'm demonstrating our Technology Preview of Autodesk Inventor Fusion. Fusion can be downloaded for evaluation by searching for Autodesk LABS. No links are allowed in comments, otherwise I would put the link directly to it. Thanks for your comment - Rob

Compatible with all other software but older versions of inventor! How come I can't open a 2012 ipt in 2011 Inventor?

My favorite cad system is CATIA but I've never used Inventor. Would love to try it out to see how it compares.

I haven't had the chance to get familiar with the newer versions of Autodesk Inventor, but i have same experience with 9 and 10 versions and I didn't like it very much back then.

But based on the videos it seems Inventor has come a long way since version 10.

anybody here notice he said 2011 inventor vs 2010 solidworks not even fair becouse solidworks has introduced alot in its new line of 2011 products. solidworks has been around for over 15 years were inventor is less than 5
