whats wierd is, apple store(not app store) has it too, you can see a phone or whatever product you want in AR

you can also accurately measure peoples heights with the measure app on lidar supported devices.

The camera also uses it for faster focus. The 13 uses it for Cinematic mode.

An app called “Reality Mixer” also uses the LiDAR sensor to improve mixed reality when using a VR headset

For anyone under iphone 12 pro max that wants to try this, there are apps that allow you to use your phones face id dot projector as the lidar sensor, 3d scanner app on the app store is the one I use but other ones support the front scanner as well, it will be less accurate and you wont be able to see what your scanning since your phone will be turned around but it still works pretty well and you can make a scan of your face also

Apple is releasing a new accessibility feature using LiDAR later this year called Door Detection to help those who are blind/partially sighted be able to tell when they are approaching a door and what signs are near the door.

It also uses this for auto focus, night photos, and depth affects. In the native camera app.

The camera uses it especially for Portrait photos. That’s why the edge around the person is better than other phones including the non pro.
