How to add custom fonts in Shopify

I got the first method to work. The second method seems less obvios where to place the correct code form theme to theme. Is there a way to add your own theme typography section where you could change fonts from the theme editor? I know you would loose access to the shopify fonts but then it would be easier to upload and change out fonts quicker?
