2022 The OGs will always remember mlg! i have so many memories from back in the day competing on Halo 3, reach, 4 and then both BO1 - BO2. It’s heartbreaking to find MLG has died… I’m 24y/o and i had to get off the games a few years ago for work and overall adulting! you get caught up in the rat race of life and having time for video games is damn near impossible. Idk why i decided to look up “MLG” and i understand now why i haven’t seen or heard of it in a very long time, it’s gone. They say “All good things come to an end” well, tbh as i’ve grown older i find myself understanding the depth of it all. It’s bittersweet but one thing that can never be taken from us are memories!!! sure it’s painful and nostalgic but i’m just grateful that i got to play in those days! there is nothing like it anymore and nothing will ever come close! the REAL competitive side of gaming is a thing of the past.💔☠️

Im gonna be honest, I never even knew that MLG was a real thing. I just thought it was some meme that became like an editing style.

MLG became unnoticeable due to more creative gaming leagues getting more popular during the COVID pandemic.

I was there watching MLG since the early days. Speaking about their major events, 2010 onward with multiple games being played at the events.
MLG were surpassed within a year or two. In 2010 they held big production events on a big stage and everybody was wowed.
By 2012 those events looked basic and old school. The stage dressing was cheap and sparse. The production was full of problems. The down time only crowd shots, if you were lucky. Down time didn't have any commentary, so you had to sit for hours waiting for the next game, not knowing when the next game would be played because the presenters were not given any time to talk between games. They had a count down timer for the next game, it always hit 00:00, and then you sat for another 20 minutes waiting for a presenter to come on mike and say what is happening.

Dreamhack and other events made MLG look like it was back yard wrestling compared to WWE.

All the other companies had the innovations, and best ideas. MLG had no ideas, and were sloppy in their presentations and productions compared.

The final nail is when they dropped all other games and went with COD full time which was already on the down turn. COD Esports was never big compared to other Esports, the viewing figures were never that big, the crowd attendance never that big. COD was bigger on Youtube, not live events. COD events were also slowly shrinking when they made their move. LoL was filling football stadiums, and CODs other events apart from Champs (which was a tiny room of about 100 people) were held in small hotel function rooms.

COD was not a stadium filler, and you couldn't get the kids to watch live, which is bad for a live events promoter.
