First Pompeii, now this? That's just crazy! I love The Pink Floyd for doing this kind of stuff.

How come I've never heard of this one?

It was evolving time for Pink Floyd still struggling to find a large audience. I saw them about this time when they played a small college in Salem Oregon (Willamette) and didn't even fill the venue. I went to see them on the strength of the Ummagumma live disc, knowing that it would be a memorable experience. They played what would become Echoes, and 'One of these Days' and of course, 'Set the Controls' "Careful' etc. from Ummagumma. It was a stunning concert, one that remains at the top of the list. Because it was a small venue and you could virtually walk to the stage, it made it even better than when I saw them a little over a year later for the pre-Dark Side tour in Portland Oregon, a few months before the album was released. Hearing Dark Side in concert before the album was released was a mind-boggling experience in itself, for it opened the concert (a red heartbeat light coming from the drums to start the dark stage) was played front to back as a piece. There were no women vocalists ... Wright filled the gig in the sky like a Rachmaninoff piece and no sax solo in Money ... just Gilmour ... It was a bigger venue by far. The word had finally gotten out about their concerts. It wasn't a 'rock' experience. It was an emotionally demanding experience unlike any other group could offer. It's interesting to see Wright manipulate the 'joystick' late in this video. Floyd used a quad PA set up in the concerts I saw, and that stick would move sound (chosen presumably by Rick) across the venue. Imagine Mason's drums, or Gilmour's guitar, or Wright's keyboards ... or all of it ... washing back and forth ... as if the music itself wasn't mind-blowing enough.

3:25 When Nick messes up, Roger looks at the camera like it was an episode of The Office.

I first heard PF in 70 or 71. I've loved them ever since. I've had several collections of their stuff. When I lose them I just start over again. We lost Rick and now the rest are older than I am at 70. How much longer before all we have left is their recordings. I think time is the greatest evil in this universe because it creates change and then destruction. I would like to come into my next life and have them here like they were 50 years ago, unchanged. That would be a perfect universe.

Oh man, I’ve only ever seen pictures of this concert and nothing like it of quality and color. Awesome.

I love that they were creative when it came to playing live...I mean a church.... brilliant idea. The perfect place to hear their master pieces. PINK FLOYD is my favourite and the best band. Zeppelin those shoplifters could never pull this off. 👍🏻💯🇬🇧

It always amazes me how they went from making noise to making some of the best music ever created.

Great to see most of you enjoy this performance, I have posted Cymbaline from the church they performed, here is the link
On 15 June 1971, Pink Floyd performed live here in front of an audience at the invitation of the Daudy family, the abbey's current owners. The family are well known in France for their cultivation of artistic talent, their generous philanthropy and their visionary taste in music and dance.

Became a fan about the same time as Ummagumma was released.  This is the Floyd I remember and grew up with.  Sad that the pressures of fame and of personality became more than the 4 of them could bare.  RIP Rick and Syd, Wish You Were Here!
