It's a channeled whelk or Busycotypus canaliculatus. They are native to Eastern US seaboard but more common around New England area. Introduced to San Francisco Bay but I wouldn't eat anything out of SFB. They are predators and scavengers and can be caught in baited traps. Italian folks back east love these! They make a traditional cold seafood marinated salad called "Scungilli" with thinly sliced fennel bulb. Also Italian Catholics have the "Feast of Seven Fishes " scungilli is one of the ingredients. These can be found canned in stores back east.

Conch is used alot in Bahamaian Cuisine. My grandmother was born there. When she was back on the islands as a lil girl, my great grandmother ( her mom) would use conch to make fritters 😁😁. Its also used in salads and soups/stews 🇨🇦🇧🇸

Our conch in The Bahamas looks a bit different, but we make fritters, salad, cracked conch, and more... You should try some island/Caribbean recipes. 🇧🇸❤

It’s actually pronounced COU-NK and it’s a national dish in the Bahamas but a different appearance from what you got

These are a lot better once they've been fried or cooked in some way. I've had conch fritters though and they're soooo damn good

I usually just grab and pull it out lol. My asian friend use some kind of sauce to dip it in, it goes something like:
Fish sauce
Water
Sugar (A LOT, you want the sauce to be THICK)
Lime (less than the sugar amount but also a lot)
Crushed Ginger
Chilies

I swear man that taste wicked

We use cook conch often in Zanzibar( They are mainly found in this island called Pemba). We boil them just like that and then we cook it in a coconut gravy, must try 😋
