I didn’t start trying to speak French until I reached a solid B1 level of comprehension. For me part of the anxiety comes from not being sure that I will understand the response to my speaking. Also it just seems clear to me that being able to speak without solid comprehension is useless.

Keep up the hard work, man. I've been studying for the past 13 weeks and not felt like I'm making a lot of progress. I haven't been truly following the MIA method yet, but it gives me hope to see that it's working for you. Hopefully I can get on that bandwagon myself now.

A youtube polyglot Luca Lampariello mentioned once, he met a professional interpretor, a person who translates in real time, and was suprised when he found out she can't speak german, the language she translates to. In other words, She can understand spoken german but can't speak it. I have no clue why that is, but I believe, we also need to develop speaking skills in parallel with listening skills.

I've been doing MIA/AJATT for more than one year now. Early output was also a huge stress-factor for me, since it is always emphasized in traditional language learning. However after 5 months of MIA + living in Japan it doesn't stress me out anymore (even though i still suck lol). I actually enjoy speaking Japanese . Good luck with your journey!

Such an EXCELLENT SHARE. Bro, the "freeze" just No idea why, and it's like there's NO fighting it, or it's almost like you dig a deeper hole. And it's all happening internally, in your brain. The person you're actually talking to appreciate what you're doing no matter how bad. Oh well, just have to try again!

The freeze got me a while back at work. Could‘ve said a dozen things in German, but after hesitating for too long, the moment was gone😔

I feel like everyone who does MIA outputs contrary to what the method entails, even at the early levels. I've been doing MIA religiously since August of last year and my progress has been ok, nothing great. I can read most manga easily now, but it's always in the back of my head that outputting to any degree helps reinforce grammar better which helps comprehension. I've yet to see a MIA success story from someone who didn't output whatsoever until the point of fluent comprehension. It was never my focus and for the longest time I didn't really trust the method because I always thought that people were "cheating" which had to be helping in some way, so if I succeed, I'll probably be one of the few who didn't output or take any sort of class, which you'll find is rare in the success stories. Not to mention those dating Japanese people outright or living in Japan, which I imagine is beneficial beyond measure. I still doubt myself all of the time because while progress is noticeable, there is never a belief that it will lead to fluency and spontaneous speech. I wonder if anyone knows of anyone who succeeded on MIA and did so with input alone until a very high level.
