This video is very instructive from the point of view of demonstration. To expand a little as regards the elliptic shooting, I can add that the shooting angle in elliptic shooting can be calculated as : tan A = weld thickness / weld diameter, where A is the shooting angle with the vertical. On the other hand, the radiation thickness is modified by the cos A in the denominator as : d = t / cos A, where d is the modified radiation thickness and t is the wall thickness.
