South of Lisbon is the port city of Setúbal, which has not been talked about or thought about very much until really recently. Josh and Kalie from ExpatsEverywhere take you all around the city to find out what it has to offer and if it could be a place that you want to live in here in Portugal. Its lower cost of housing and proximity to Lisbon could make it the perfect home for you to seek great value for money.

I live in Setúbal and I have mixed feelings when I see this type of videos. If on one side I really get glad that the city gets known, on the other hand I just think on how bad it gets for locals when tourists come in at an high rate - housing prices will continue to shoot up (more than doubled over the last 4 years) and gets impossible for local people to live here...and if "setubalenses" don't live here, you won't get "that feeling".

Anyway, it's a nice place indeed. Cheers!

Too bad you guys didn´t showcase Tróia and Arrábida range, for me, it´s impossible to think of Setúbal without thinking of Tróia and Arrábida !!
Also, the commuter takes about 1h from Setúbal to Lisbon but there´s no risk of catching traffic on it, it has comfortable seats with AC on every carriage and crossing the 25th April bridge on the train and enjoying the view for me almost makes it worth the ride.

I say our city is a little gritty and a little pretty. We have a great community here, but housing--rental or purchase--is scarce. It's getting really tough (lots of my clients want to be here). It's such a hidden gem--and you don't need a car! :)

Setubal is very interesting…I like the actual “Portugal” feel of this city. Thanks for doing this video. All the locations you’ve visited have been filled with lots of great info.

Setubal is a great place to live. Bought my apartment 2 years ago after 3 months hunting for a good place. The town is fantastic. Has a sublime food market and a secret fish market for people in the know. Cost of living very affordable. nice people and surrounding.

Love the high-energy and enthusiasm! Moving quickly from point to point with a summary really works well! Looking forward to the same from other interesting places. Thanks!

Setúbal definitely ticks all the boxes for me. Living in a place like this is the best way to integrate and savor authentic Portuguese life. I like its close proximity to Lisbon, the cost of living, weather, seafood, beaches, outdoor activities, and that you don't really need a car. Thanks for presenting this hidden gem, I so appreciate the good information.
P.S. When do you normally post your viewers' survey for future destinations, I seem to have missed them.

Great insights! Setubal is on our short list - appreciate how you back up your opinions against a checklist of what’s important for your family situation. Really enjoying the virtual tours!

I live in Setubal, it's an incredible place to be, amazing value for money and so close to Lisbon, add to that the best beaches in Portugal are in this region as well as the best national forrest and you have a very compelling argument to live here :)

Guys, great videos ! As a Portuguese now living in Canada and also who has lived and worked ( not only passing through as a short or medium term tourist ) in a few other countries, I’d recommend getting a local Portuguese person to be part of your vídeos, someone who can show you places and explain the things that you are missing ! Believe me, you are missing 80% of what’s around you ! Ask more locals to show you ! There are hidden gems everywhere in Portugal that only the locals know ! Good luck and keep up the good works! Boa sorte!👍

Second time I have watched this video since Setubal is on our now very short list. We will be coming from Philadelphia, and I was going to say "gritty" may be the word you are looking for, and I see others have said this as well. I do think a little grit makes things more interesting. Thanks again!

Another small town on the Stlantic south of Lisbon Is Sesimbra., A fishing Village but also a summer escape for Portuguese especially from Lisbon as it’s so close but yet so far from the big city. It’s definitely worth a visit and maybe a day at the beach. They do have some hotel accommodations and a resort that just opened, and general housing including leases etc.

The local police are no longer allowing cars on the beach road for some of the beaches due to parking issues and the difficulty of emergency vehicles getting through. Buses can get to all the beaches 15mins - 25minutes from the centre depending on which beach.

Really found this video to be both informative, and helpful.
Setubal, and neighbouring areas have been on my radar as somewhere of interest, but yours is the first video that I’ve come across which provides really useful information. Thank You!
