The tip to use the same colour top and bottom is spot on. I love colour and I found out to create a vertical with it by pairing a darker shade on the bottom (like a dark burgundy) with a lighter shade on top (like a rose red). This way the vertical isn't interrupted and interest is added to the outfit. Dark khaki and dark teal work great too :)

I’m a classic and so bored with the preppy styles! Maybe sometime you could give some ideas that look great but aren’t so conservative?
