And I Love Her was one of the first non traditional songs I learned on my nylon guitar. Love your break down here Matt!

My personal favorite it's just quintessential Beatles from beginning to end...it's timeless, a masterpiece so many forgotten numbers that are truly amazing.

This album showed the world they were not just a pop band, to release a movie and a soundtrack that was composed completely by them was pretty fantastic for the short time they had been around. This music still sounds great to me today even though it is close to 60 years old. Enjoyed your review. Take care!

Hello Mathew, this is Lawrence, remember me, I responded to some of your videos a while back but due to some computer problems and a rash of activity in my life I have been AWL of later. Anyway nice assessment of A Hard Says Night. It is amazing because for this album they wrote all the songs which was unread of at that time. A few artist wrote their own songs prior like Buddy Holly and Paul Anka along with a few others put pretty much the songwriting were left to the songwriters and the vocal interpretation of the songs were left to the artist like Elvis.

I just like to point out that Things We Said Today and I'll Be Back in their lyrical content seems to be cut from the same cloth of the Rubber Soul songs, that they seem to have a more mature reflectiveness to them. Both song would have good ones to record during the Rubber Soul sessions and are good indications of where The Beatles were heading. Anyway I though I share this observation with you and I have some catching up to do with viewing your videos. Good Day :)

If I Fell. Pauls vocal cuts out, at end of high note..on one version.

Great review Matt, thoughtful and concise as ever. Agree that this is a big step up in terms of songwriting. When you think that this band as a recording unit is barely a year old, it's incredible that they were allowed to record a whole album of original material - very unusual and a great tribute and thrust in the their writing by George Martin. This is my favourite album pre-Rubber Soul. Very much dominated by John but as you point out, Paul's songs are no slouches here. I also think they really cut their harmonising teeth on this record. they had done harmonising on the first 2 albums, but the harmonies on this seem to be much more musical and better thought out. Harmony is always about knowing when to harmonise and when not to to achieve the biggest impact, and they are learning this craft quickly on this record. If I fell and I'll be Back have always been my favourite tracks on the album for this reason. Well done, great video

Nice review Matt! My absolute favorite from their early years...well, this along with the US Beatles Second Album. All Lennon McCartney, not a bad song in the bunch, and the foundation of the power pop genre in my opinion! Nice job! Cheers Matt

There’s actually a lot of differences on a hard day’s night between the mono and stereo versions on the songs there’s different takes on I should have known better the harmonica intro plays completely through in mono but in the stereo version it kind of cuts out just before it finishes so it’s probably a different take of the harmonica part at the beginning
