3 Steps To STOP Sheepshead From Stealing Your Bait

Are you sick of sheepshead stealing your bait?

These fish are notorious bait stealers, but the good news is that there is a way for you to lose fewer baits while catching more sheepshead.

The three-step method you'll learn in this video will show you how.

A few years ago, I was in the same boat as you, frustrated at how I would lose so many shrimp and fiddler crabs when targeting sheepshead.

It was expensive and annoying, but I didn't give up.

Instead, I started figuring out how to catch them and put together this method I call, "Sheepshead 1-2-3."

It's helped me catch hundreds of sheepshead over the years (you'll see a few in this video) and I know it'll help you, too.

Have any questions about these tips?

Or do you have any other suggestions for how to stop sheepies from stealing your bait?

Let me know down in the comments.

As I mentioned in one of your other videos, I love how you include the releases! Seeing those Sheepshead make those perfect dives into the water (with your light toss) put a smile on my face!

You’re doing a great job explaining things verbally and with the videos. Keep it up!

Great tips...I'm embarrassed to say I have yet to catch a sheepshead..and I have known the madness of those evil bait stealing mangrove snappers , but gosh it is a fun challenge. 🎣🐟

Them sheep head can be tricky, for sure. One thing I do when I feel the bite, is that I will reel just slightly, encouraging them to bite harder.

I use 15lb light blue power pro with a 15-20lbs fluorocarbon leader. I let the power pro lay on the surface since it floats. You can see the moist minute sheepshead bite with this rig and I've limited out many times. 1/0 red j hook with a split shot works best. Tight lines.

I remember years ago fishing sheep in clear water, and over and over watched them grab the bait and swim of just pulling the bait off the hook and then eat it, started cutting small pieces of shrimp and ended that trick, don't waist a whole shrimp.

Try piece of dead shrimp on a circle hook

Good video, but the captioning blocked the line / rod tip action you were explaining.

If I know they are in the area I use a small piece of shrimp on a larger hook, or I switch to a circle hook. When my bait gets stolen I will even go with a treble hook.

This video is not worth watching unless you show your hook setup, why was it edited not to show it? Every Salt strong video got a thumbs up from me but this a first thumbs down!

Theyre called convicts mainly because of their prison stripes! Not because they steal your bait, but they do that too for sure."Getting close to theese pilings too, that could be good" ?? Your supposed to be right next to the piling and on the down current side!
