BMW i3 strip down ep 12_ boot latch mechanism, boot won't open

I have the exact same problem with the jammed boot and same noise. However, when attempting to manually release the latch with screwdriver to the side, the boot would still not open. Do you have to slide the manual release to the side, and have someone press the button from outside, or would you be able to slide the manual release and push the hatch out from inside?

Would have been a better job if you showed us how to remove the trim. I really don't want to destroy my trim panels trying to fix the trunk latch.🙃 Any videos of that procedure available?
