Hi friends! In this video I am going to be addressing some of the articles and headlines I have seen recently talking about how employees have made 7 figures working in tech. I wanted to make this video because I think the tech industry if often over glamorized and hyped. It is important to really understand total compensation and each part of it. I also share if these people are making as much as the headlines claim, where it would be coming from. I hope you find this video helpful and valuable! Leave in the comments other questions you have around it.

// My Story

I am currently a software developer who once modeled and thought I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While I was modeling in Hong Kong, I eventually felt the desire to further my education. I decided to depart the modeling world and move back to Canada, knowing that could be the end of my modeling opportunities. I attended Ryerson University for GCM (Graphic Communications Management), as I thought I might still work in the fashion industry in another capacity. It was in my last year of university, I was introduced to a very basic coding course. I instantly fell in love. From there I knew I wanted to pursue software development but didn't have a clue where to start. I didn't want to go back to university as I just completed a four-year degree. I decided to enroll in a 10-week intensive coding Bootcamp. From there I started working at a small startup learning and growing my technical and soft skills. I then transitioned to a larger company where I am a software developer and technical consultant today.

I'm leaning how to code and started with basics html css JavaScript. And I think having to talk to people those are already in tech is always helpful. But I don't know how to start networking. Could you suggest some ways to connect to people and to be part of the community.

So I just started learning front-end (literally yesterday) and I was curious about dev jobs in general. In my country (specially in my city since its one of the tech hubs here) the jobs for devs are ridiculous good and in huge demand. I'm graduated in Business Adm and I was feeling quite down on how my career was looking forward but after watching some vids about tech/dev (yours and a few others, included from some of my countrymen) I just gotta really excited to pursue a career in this field. Not only I'll have the opportunity to work in any field but being able to get a job overseas is a dream coming true.

I'm starting with web-dev since its the easier way here to get a job and start in the career but I honestly want to learn so much about all this area! I've sub to your channel to try to understand more about all this stuff.

Ahh and three suggestions to anyone reading this, it was given to me by a colleague who is an experienced dev.

1) Networking is REALLY important! Make contacts, talk to people, share knowledge, share jobs, help each other.
2) Develop your soft-skills as much as your coding skills. Its relatively common for people in this field to not have good communication skills, so its a huge advantage having those soft-skills always improving.
3) Make yourself known. Be it on dev communities, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, etc. anywhere really. (Like Tiff here, while helping other with her videos, she is also making herself known in the industry, its a win-win situation really)

You " just" need to get into the global players like google, meta... Else, you have to be successful with your selfowned business.
