Reason it sounds like Guajira is because it was written by Chepito who actually wrote it.

Couple years late to the comments. I have owned this since it came out... on CD. Little background. Neal Schon was 16 when he was asked by Carlos (and Clapton) to join their bands. Schon was good friends with Rollie and liked Carlos and the guys. They did ask Carlos to reunite here, but he was busy touring etc. So declined. That’s why years later... Santana IV was made. Also, this song was a feature in the movie “Love & Basketball”. I love the Hendrix shirt. That is Schon’s main influence, Jeff Beck, Carlos and Clapton among others. He’s like a chameleon and I love that. Love me some Santana 100%. Anyway - you guys probably know all of this... but just some more background.

Glad to have made the recommendation and even happier that you guys picked it, played it and thoroughly enjoyed this
wonderful piece of music! The entire album is a fantastic delight and unfortunately it really slipped under the radar at
the time of its initial release way back in '97. I picked up my cassette copy(!) during a trip to NYC in the summer of that
particular year. Sure do wish that I had bought the CD instead...

Neil is a great guitarist and technically actually higher skilled than Carlos. Can't say anything negative about his guitar playing in this song either. But....for me personally, only Carlos sounds like Carlos and can give that specific euphoric, tear jerking feel which he pours in to your heart and soul. Perhaps many would say this Baila mi cha cha song sounds exactly like Santana. For band does, but the guitar, as technically great as it is, does nothing.
It's Carlos's personal choice of notes / melody and the typical timing that makes his sound unique and universally touching. For sure the Santana band is epic and Carlos needs that kind of back up in order to shine at his best. But I think Carlos can achieve the epic music he is known for with any group of highly skilled latin percussionists and a great keyboard the Santana band can not sound like Santana without Carlos.
I don't want to be a party pooper but in my opinion this song sounds like a fantastic rock guitarist overdoing it over a Santana backing track. Just like there are many Santana tribute bands that have technically better skilled blues /rock lead guitarists than Carlos they don't sound like Santana because the lead guitarists prefer showboating their skills in stead of trying to capture the signature Carlos Santana guitar sound and feel.
There are a few here on YT who come very close but I can count them on one hand.
Just my 2 cents which of course is very subjective.
