Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On
Her album: Corinne Bailey Rae
Track: 3
Genre: R&B & Soul
Year release: 2006
Label: EMI Records

[Verse 1]

Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don't need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls Double-Dutch on the concrete.

Maybe sometimes, we've got it wrong, but it's alright
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same
Oh, don't you hesitate.

[Chorus]

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

[Verse 2]

Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely,
Sipping tea in the bar by the roadside,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Got to love that afro hair do.

Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change.
Don't you think it's strange?

[Chorus]

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

'[Verse 3]

Twas more than I could take, pity for pity's sake
Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger
When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer?
Do what you want to.

[Chorus]

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

Oh, you're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow

Suddenly, I feel like riding a bike through a country road on a sunny day.

The moment I heard the line "Three little birds sat on a window", a part of my childhood I thought I had forgotten forever came rushing back to my mind.
Amazing how music can do that.

"you're gonna find yourself somewhere...somehow." i listened to this song nonstop the summer after I graduated high school. I was super nervous about starting college and was worried I wouldn't make friends and wouldn't be able to handle classes. But here I am, a senior now with too many friends to count, and I'm going to graduate this year. and while my career path changed, I went through severe depression my sophomore and junior year, I still have dreams and this dream is closer to my heart than my first one. Things will be okay, they will work out in the end. In the mean time, let your hair down and put those records on ;)

this song is a carefree sunny day, a face dry and salty after a good cry, bare feet on a soft wooden walkway warm from the sun, a deep breath releasing all your stress. this song means so much. i wish i could thank Corinne Bailey Rae for creating such a beautiful song.

“You go ahead, let your hair down”

Has to be the sweetest way to tell a girl she’s in her safe place right now, just enjoy yourself girl. 🥺❤️

Nostalgic 2000's vibes hit me. Reminds me of when I was little, living in Sydney and the sun was shining after light rain.

I used to get picked on as a child for being the only natural haired girl in my class. My mom played this song one day and I took my hair out lil' buns and embraced my wild afro. the next day, I went to school like that with a hair bow and everyone stopped messing with me. all the girls wanted to play with my hair lol.

When I was a child, I used to listen to this song by myself while my older brothers and sisters would watch tv downstairs. I'm the youngest so I do admit loneliness accompanied me but THIS song filled my bedroom with joy and made me content with being alone. I don't know but this song means alot to me :)

seeing many stories in comments of this song bringing young girls through tough times....echos in my head to this day. I was the only girl I knew growing up with unruly natural curls. I'm in my mid twenties now and I wouldn't trade it for even the sleekest straight hair in the world.

I was 19 years old when this song came out and remember my aunt dying in the hospital and the only thing to take me out of reality was this beautiful song. Thank you Corinne.

Just heard the phrase 'let your hair down' and suddenly remembered this song and had to look it up to hear it again for the first time in 15 years. Such a beautiful song.

( i looked it up and some other dude apparently sings it too and i immediately looked for her version because this is the one i grew up with, not that one. She just have such a perfect way of expressing it.)
