2013 F-150 Ecoboost Stutter/Misfire | High mileage update #3

Engine stutter when accelerating is not only annoying but also dangerous if passing.
Spark plugs were done but didn’t help. Injectors next to see if that fixes it
Let me know in the comments if you’ve had this or know the issue?

Also did the plugs and coil boots at 85000km last year ( my truck is low mileage for a 2012). ... I was getting misfires / check engine lights/ loss of power when towing. If you do this you MUST get the Ford OEM coils. I and many others have tried to go the aftermarket route to save a few bucks ... and they die again in no time... mine lasted 3 weeks when towing in the summer. The Ford coils I got next have been trouble free. I think you need to count on doing the coils every ~90000km with these engines.

These 3.5 Ecos are awesome for performance... but they are kind of princesses that demand to be pampered. Since I’ve been doing the TLC it has been awesome 😀

Hi there, not sure if you're aware of a common issue in these vehicles take cumulate moisture and oil Vapors when the intercooler and I guarantee you if you drill a weep hole in your intercooler to relieve condensed fluids, it would instantly fix your issue! Be sure to do your own research on how to properly do this mod

Shudder on my 2012 f150 Ecoboost here in Alberta seemed to be mostly caused by the famous intercooler condensation issue. I would notice most often when parked at a traffic light on cool / cold mornings. Once the truck warmed up it went away. I drilled a 1/16th hole at the low point just before the intercooler outlet pipe... got a few table spoons of brown cruddy water came out. All last summer when towing I would notice more oily condensation coming out. This pretty much eliminated this shudder... except I had to figure out to park the truck so the drain hole side was low (tilted street). Otherwise I would still notice the shudder the next morning.

I have also installed a dual catch can system. The one on the passenger side catches most of the junk. The one on the driver’s side catches less... but without that one, that oily stuff also ends up in the intercooler... then your intake and causes your engine to shudder. The weep hole / drain hole made the biggest difference though.

Pretty sure mine is from a timing chain that is loose...it has rattle sound when I start it up cold...but goes away shortly. 222K on my Ecoboost.

Had the shutter recently, was a combo of the purge valve and throttle body

If after doing the standard plugs, coils and the injectors check out ok, you probably have too much carbon build up on your intake valves.

With that mileage, I would do a walnut blast cleaning anyway. It will help the drivability a whole bunch.
