Nooo, the front door is beautiful! A mix of old and new is what adds character to a home ❤ I completely agree with replacing things that look dingy or dirty, but trends come and go, and they sure dont make things like they use to!

I have a desk in my kitchen and I love it. I leave one of our laptops on it and if I'm hunting for a recipe, I can print it off right there, Skype when I'm fixing dinner as well as catch up on emails, etc. Easy place to keep monthly bills organized and pay online. We do have a separate office but it's on another floor. The kirchen desk is very handy for me.

Also, check the inside of your cabinet doors. Sometimes, you can swith them out for the more modern look you are seeking without the expense of buying new doors.

Have fun with your new home. It'll look fantastic when it is all done.

A quick update for the grout problem is a grout paint or stain. I’ve done it and it’s amazing

I converted my kitchen desk into a wine and coffee bar. I placed a small wine cooler in the space where the desk chair would go and used the drawers, cabinets, and cubbies for items related to making and enjoying coffee and wine and other beverages.

Congratulations on your marriage and your new home! My home was built in 2010 and I have some of the now outdated features you pointed out in your home. Many thanks for not being disrespectful to the choices that we make for the finishes that were current at the time. I think we can all agree that all decor will eventually be outdated, but it is not necessary to be rude and disrespectful to someone that most likely put a lot of thought and money into their home. This is why I enjoy your channel so much very professional and I feel like your intentions are to help us transition our homes, one design decision at a time. TFS

With the environment the way it is right now, glass paneled doors make breaking in easy. I wish my door wasn’t sooo much glass. Hoping to change the doors soon! Safety trumps pretty in this scary environment!

One of the first things I did when we moved in was replace almost every outlet and cover in the house. Don’t be afraid to replace the outlets themselves, they’re $2-3 a piece and usually just need a couple minutes and a screwdriver to install, just shut off the breaker of course. Makes a huge difference.

Pro tip! Have all your cover plate screws the same direction horizontally or vertically!

I think I would be careful of all that glass in the front door, just for safety reasons. It looks good but can be a wonderful way to enter your home by unwelcome guests

First things we changed were the vent covers, the light switches and covers, and even the return vent covers all got fresh paint. The tiny areas really did make a huge difference. Great tips.

Glass mosaic tiles - agree that it dates your home if it’s used as a kitchen backsplash or fireplace surround, or yes, that border around the shower/tub area. However, I just re-tiled my shower in glass mosaic tiles (sea glass blues and sea glass greens) and it looks amazing!

I totally disagree about the raised panel cabinets. The paint needs updating, but raised panel cabinets are a classic. I think it is a matter of taste.

I painted all my grout with grout paint. Went from brown to a biscuit color.

Completely agree with Kristen!! Raised panels look dated. They do make cupboards appear smaller and too busy.

I personally agreed with everything except the raised panel cabinets and Edison bulbs, they are timeless classic and elegant.
