Cheap and Lightweight, But Too Soft? Elitewheels EDGE Review!

Watch my review of the Elitewheels Edge 50mm budget carbon wheels to determine whether these Aliexpress wheels are worth it. I have thoroughly tested them both indoors and outdoors to assess their pros and cons.

I examined their lateral and radial trueness, checked spoke tension and inside of the rim, and put them to the test on different terrains.

Additionally, I compared them to other Chinese carbon wheels, such as YOELEO SAT PRO 2022, Trifox WT11, Farsports Ventoux S, Elitewheels DRIVE, Superteam All-Carbon Ultra 2023, and more.

Thanks for the review. Since i like more flats, i ride aero and so i brought the 65mm Edge Ultralight wheelset with ceramic bearings at 26 March. It was shipped at 18 april but i'm in Europe and still waiting for them (I'm counting on them arriving in early June). Also for people to know, you can upgrade the 36T ratchet to 60T ratchet after you confirm the order. You can ask for it in the chat with Elitewheels (you need to pay more 40€). I choosed the "sellers shipping method" to avoid VAT taxes. With Ali aniversary cupon, the total i paid for this 65mm (1490gr) wheelset was 537, 03€.

Great review. I have these wheels and think they are really good. Very lightweight at 1348g and I subjectively feel they are quick, responsive and feels as light as they weigh. My racing wheels Princeton 7580 front and Roval 321 disc wheel rear (I am a triathlete) and I have never noticed that the Edge 50mm feels too soft. Also, I didnt quit understand their lack of ability to hold the speed. Like all objects, the higher the mass, the more energy it takes to both accelerate and brake it down. But unless you have a downhill race lighter is always faster if everything else is equal.

Great review! I have these as well and can understand what you mean by stiffness and responsiveness. On the other hand, for most people that are looking for wheels at this price point they will be near perfect if you ask me. They are stiff but not too much and that's gives a great combination with comfort which I really like!

Can you please give us another review after 2000 miles/4000 km? To give us some idea about the long-term reliability?

Keep up the good work! 😊

My assessment is mixed as of this post...
I bought 60mm/28 width 10/11 speed set from Amazon in April 2024. The fit between the bearings and axle was faulty out of the box. I emailed Elitewheels directly and sent multiple videos/images over ~ 4 months. After posting a negative review on Amazon in August, they are now willing to replace the entire rear wheel. I wish I hadn't had to get feisty, but I'm glad they are honoring their warranty. I'll update this post once the replacement is onboard and gets a few hundred miles.

Was deciding between these and the Drives, and ended up going with the Edge myself. Hoping they are a nice enough upgrade from my stock cheap alloy wheels my bike came with at least

Hey Petr, nice videos to watch thanks. I'm thinking to buy these wheels in rim break version, I currently have the Vision Team 30 na dI'm looking for an upgrade, couldn't decide for these or for the DT Swiss Dicut Oxic 21 that now are selling for the same amount of money. So the dilemma is keep all or switch to carbon without spend a fortune? What are your suggestions? Any experience with rim brake wheels? Thank you

Got the same one. I have driven them for about an year and only paid 560€ incl tax. Because of a new wheelset from CSC (30x59mm, 1515gr awesome wheelset for 420€) I now use these for gravel. As described, they are not too stiff and are also suitable for gravel with 40mm tubeless. Due to their relatively low weight, they accelerate very well. They also seem reliable for racing. On the road there was a comfort gain when changing from 25 (5000sTR) to 28mm (CONTI TT 28mm) tires. The sidewalls remain flush with the tire so that there are no aero disadvantages.
All in all, a clear recommendation to buy.😅

I have their Gravel Edge, 45mm, 24mm internal width, came in at 1408g. Everything is great, but bc they're so light, they absolutely need to be balanced, all said and done, about 12g/15g per (front/rear) wheel extra for balancing, worth it, they ride SO damn smooth.

Hi Peter, eventually I got a pair of elitewheels edge 50 mm rim. I give you my review and a question: very beautiful wheels, great groved break line. Very light. Very good absorbtion of bumbs and vibration so they ride smooth. Fairly stiff and reactive. Being the rim very light they have little rolling inertia so you feel it in the ups and downs. Not so easy to align with those spokes setting. The ratchet sound is too loud for me plus it is not constant, it variates like a grass cicada. I put some grease and turned a bit low. I suggest doing wheel balancing with some adesive weight, it make huge difference on such lightweight rim.
Last.. the wheel have a slight whobble, a slack sideways. If you push and pull the rim sideways, you feel a little clak, clak. Like when the hub isn't well tight. Did you find the same last problem?? I am not so sure about the construction of the 2 side cones. Tightness of the hub depends on those. I also reported to elitewheels but they didn't understand what I was talking about. 🤦‍♂️

just bought a set of the Edge 50mm with ceramic bearings from Amazon for $813 USD to my door. They looked great rolled true, weighed as claimed. I did one 30 mile ride on pavement and they were both way out of true after. That and it was super hard to get the brake rotors back off, its like they werent machined right. Too many problems for one ride, I sent them back. Maybe its a good wheel, but not for a heavier rider as myself

I think they have a good blend of responsiveness and comfort, they roll quite well. They are a good compromise for someone that wants wheels that deliver either climbing or rolling, but dont compromise in any area. They dont compare to the best wheels climbing or descending, but i dont think that was the intention

Very good, comprehensive review. You really did a good job for everyone (like me) who is in the market for new wheels ... ! What tires (+ tire width) did you put on those wheels, by the way? I couldn't see it / understand clearly.

would be really curious to hear anyone's experience with the 2.0 version of this same wheelset. Seems like Elite claims they are stiffer (and new hub, thus lighter)... has anyone tried them?

Did you test the breaking power in wet condition? Because these wheels have special grooves for draining water. (Talking about rim wheels)What difference did you find in breaking between this and ENT ? Thank you for your reviews!! I am trying to make up my mind if it's worth spending 200 euros more for the EDGE or not. 😂 The question is: are 200 euro worth only 200 grams less or there is more ??
