Rigorous Test to Making A Sniper's Ghillie Suit

A sniper's Ghillie suit must allow him to traverse mountains, forests, fields, and jungles all while avoiding enemy detection. This special bond is forged through blood sweat and tears as early as week 2 of the sniper course.

Instead of supplying troops with one, students are made to fashion their own unique suit from old uniforms, netting, and both real and fake vegetation so that they can match whatever environment they’re operating in. They’re then put through a rigorous test known as the Gillie Wash, where they must crawl through deep clay mud while being sprayed with a hose, ruck up and down a mountain, and other physical tests. They cannot move on to the final test until the suit can withstand everything the instructors can throw at it.

The final test is known as the stalk test, where students are dispersed into the woods and stalked by their instructors, simulating being hunted by the enemy. This is where the professional sniper is forged, and his Ghillie suit perfected. With such rigorous trials, a special trust is formed between the sniper and his Ghillie suit and gives them the confidence that they can blend in with any environment.
