The funniest thing happened when I started playing Fallout 1 again recently when it comes to random encounters. I just created my character and left the cave to Vault 13, I headed for shady sands entering the next grid on the map next to Vault 13 getting a random encounter. I thought it was going to be a radscorpion attack but then I saw a tipped over truck. Confused I looked around and found 8000+ caps in a crate. I had 8000 caps in less 10 seconds of exploring the wastes.

Sad thing about Area 51: Going off of a map of Nevada, it's surprisingly close to Nellis AFB. Meaning that if they'd been able to make the game map for the Mojave just a LITTLE bit bigger, we could've had it in Fallout: New Vegas. Funnily enough, if you can remember where those aliens can be found, it'd basically be right on the opposite side of the mountains they parked their ship on.

the bb gun causes instadeath if aimed for the eyes which is a reference to A Christmas Story for you'll shoot your eye out, kid.

I forgot just how many crazy Easter eggs the first two Fallout games had.

There are a whole bunch of random encounters you can only get with having a maxed out luck skill in both Fallout 1 & 2. They are pretty zany, such as the Guardian Forever one that takes you back in time to your vault where you can get a unique weapon, the whale that apparently fell from the sky, and a group of brotherhood knights that sing Monty Python songs from The Quest for the Holy Grail!

A pair of skeletons(Mulder & Scully) and a note reading, 'They're really out there'...is more likely an X-Files reference.."The truth is 'out there'."

I loved the caravan cart designs from the first Fallout, how they're made from repurposed car parts. A shame they didn't re-use that in New Vegas.

The “fuzzy painting of Elvis” is a reference to a Velvet Elvis. They were popular in tourist traps in the 70s. They were pictures of elvis painted on velvet.

Fun fact:There is a reason for the giant dinosaur track easter egg, as well as possibly the gardian of tomorow one in FO 2.
According to a conference with Timothy cain, very early in devellopement the plot of Fallout was to feature extensive time travel and even dinosaurs. It was of course changed very early in devellopement but its possible the enconter was kept as an easter egg.
Mantises existed in FO1 and 2 before New vegas, yeah.

If you liked Fallout 1’s random encounters, you’ll love Fallout 2’s. The humor behind Fallout 2’s encounters are just amazing.

Could the "moo, I say" be a reference to the episode of the Flintstones when Fred and Barney dressed up as a cow to foil some rustlers?

sorry Oxhorn but the Red Ryder LE BB Gun can be considered an endgame weapon to a ballistics build in both Fallout 1 & 2, just aim for the eyes for massive damage

The footprint is partially a Godzilla reference, and I think partially a reference to Jurassic Park, as it's claimed the the T. rex's perception is motion based. Hence the stealth boy.

That does make you actually wonder did doctor who visit the fallout universe he does talk about many worlds and universes where He has been and sound like he knows the cost of war so it is possible that he was actually there

I love random encounters, they add so much realism to the game especially in Fallout 3 and New Vegas with the wild wasteland perk
