Addition I just bought a 3090 running games like shadow of the tombraider at 4k ultra nightmare settings 32% cpu utilization in task manager

Its quite impressive that the 10900k is that close and only supports up pcie 3.0, imagine what it would look like if it support pcie 4.0 it would be pretty much the same.

So right now I love gaming in 4k with the 4090. I have the 10850k overclocked. Ive dropped own to 1440p in Overwatch in order to get 360+ fps for esport refresh and response (theoretical). I don't think I will ever go back to 1080p again, its far too noticable on a 32 inch 4k monitor. But I still do have my 1080p 240hz 17 inch.

With all that said. I think my threshold for CPU upgrade for games is 30% improvement, but in 1440 and 4k. So I think it'll be a while, it might be when I upgrade from the 4090. My threshold for GPU is 50% improvement, which is possible with a next gen 50 series maybe in 2 years. It might also be that I skip CPU's that time again. It could be though I need to upgrade the motherboard and cpu anyways if the 50 series or equivalent needs a faster PCIE 5.0 slot.

I9 10900k - Rtx 4090 is what I have, I'm staying with that combo..

I play all in 4k and VR, no reason to spend the money for a few frames.

I switched from 10900k to 13900k and seeing 30 to 40 more fps in all the games I’ve tried. Went from win 10 to win 11 and ddr4 3600mhz to ddr5 6000, and went from a 970 sad to a 990pro for the OS hard drive. For me the 13900k system is much stronger.

I went from a 3090 to a 4090 and the 4090 is damn near magic for my VR (Varjo Aero) - Playing Skyrim VR flawlessly with 200+ mods. The 3090 was good, but I would hit the ceiling. 10900k I have is solid and stable, no reason for me to upgrade yet. Running on a LG ultrawide. 4090 people, 4090!!!

Yea no ill stick with my 10900k, maybe its time when 14900k comes but now its still an absolute beast, ive had mine since release and it still performs as it was brand new, never goes over 60-65c gaming i 3440x1440p and its an absolute beast in workloads.

Yea, this cpu definitely got atleast 2-3 more years on the neck.

it was definitely worth the 600 bucks i paid....

ok. I see this alot to uneducated people. not your fault. Benchmarks dont tell the whole story. many of these games with similar FPS are either reaching the engine limit, or are gpu bound. While the 10900k is a beast, It does not compare to the 13900k on raw compute power. Its quite disingenuous to call the 13900k a slow processor. Especially when it trades blows with the 7950x at a lower price.
