Building A Log Cabin | Ep. 47 | The floor is installed! No more ugly OSB | Cutting more trees

Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!

In this episode, we carry up many more floorboards to finish the first floor of the cabin. Since these boards were bought rough cut, we use a hand planer to smooth them out. We also use our planer to adjust the edges of the boards to minimize the gap between adjacent floorboards. To increase the heat retention of the cabin and reduce drafts, we stuff the outside cracks of the logs with more rock wool. Finally, we get started cutting more trees. These smaller trees will be used for the walls of our bathroom and the structure of the kitchen counter.

We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

Awesome job. I understand building your cabin with no power tools. But I see nothing wrong with using a chain saw for cutting your fire wood. That wood shed needs to be packed full for winter 👍🏻💛🙏🏻

Such a long way to pick up and walk each floor board into the cabin! Impressive stamina!!

Wonderful floor. I'm impressed, as always with you two.

I have seen some use an old tire as a ring to hold the logs when chopping... works well. Another thing for spring and clearing near the cabin... some get a barrel and place over stumps and burn them out rather than chop endlessly to remove.

Nice job. You can see the shine on the boards after planing.

Maela so very impressed with your strength on that axe. I also love watching that wood planer do it’s work. My grandfather used so many of the tools you use and it’s all good memories for me. Hope the cabin is warmer now getting that gap in the logs filled. Merry Christmas guys.😊

Appreciate the wide variety of screen shots as you come in as well as once there. I know it takes extra time.

You too have come so far with your cabin built, how satisfying it must be to be able to live inside while finishing the build.
Thank you.

That’s a very long walk to take packing lumber and supplies! A snow mobile with a little trailer would be nice

Enjoy watching you both building and making things, you make it look easy but it isn't. Like the idea of knowing every inch of the cabin, the floors are looking so nice and cozy. I know you can't keep on building without stopping to do other chores, they too have to be done. Great job.

Firewood warms you twice. And I broke a sweat just watching that two man buck saw at work. And that's a nice, fat floor with R-value, character and best of all, it's not "luxury vinyl".

Looking good! I’ve always heard that old timers would sweep the sawdust into the cracks and add some wood glue. Then you can just sand that down.
