Tan France, the loving host of Queer Eye, Author, entrepreneur and now new dad, opens up about his journey to through surrogacy with his husband, Rob and how they plan to feed their baby. His son, Ismail, arrived seven weeks early and spent several weeks in NICU.

Tan's had to take on social media trolls throughout his journey to parenthood. As two dads, he talks about the fact that he will not be sourcing breastmilk for his newborn baby as his surrogate is not able to pump- and the judgement that gay dads can face for opting for formula and believes the societal conversation needs to evolve to be more inclusive of all parents and their choices that are best for them.

We adopted our daughter from 2, 000+ miles. Needless to say, Having her birth mom provide breastmilk was out of the question. She not only thrived on formula, we raised her on a vegetarian diet (until she could make the choice on her own). She'll be 29 next month and she is just fine. You and your partner will make the right choices for your baby. Congratulations!

Kids don’t need anyone’s arbitrary standards of ‘perfect’ or ‘natural’ parenting, they just need love and committed care and attention from their caregivers. If that’s two happily married men that’s awesome. There’s plenty of kids being raised in homes with their heterosexual biological parents who are abused and mistreated and grow up without love or self-worth. Blood and opposite sex parents don’t automatically make a home a good environment.

I was adopted as an infant and I was feed on formula. I’m 6’2”, female and healthy. Formula NEVER put me or my parents at a disadvantage of being a healthy, happy and well-adjusted family. If anything, it helped immensely. Congrats to Tan and his husband on their baby!

Tan and his husband will be amazing parents. I am delighted for them. Do not listen to negative people. Their comments are a reflection of their shortcomings not yours. My adopted son was formula fed. He is a strong tall healthy adult.

Awww, Tan! Congratulations! Everyone in our family for generations and my own children were breastfed, but I’d like to be very clear and say that you are doing great at fatherhood and formula will be wonderful nourishment for your little one! Don’t let anyone increase your worries, the love and time you give your baby is the key. I wish you a beautiful family journey with your new little person!

You never need to go to school to be parents is a scary thing. The fact you have come a long way and decided what is right for you as a family, how are you going to raise the child, how you can be supportive and loving to your little one. That's much more than the baby is pushing out of the body. It should come from your heart. Even there is no blood connection there, love makes you a family. Let along you help this baby comes into this world. I learned this the hard way. God bless you to your family Tan. Congrats and all the best.

I truly could not think of two more deserving and incredible humans to be fathers. Your baby is blessed! Truly.

Thank you for having this open dialogue and showing that yes, it is possible to be in a relationship and be married to a gay man and to be fathers. The representation and modelling is so so, important to all of young BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ people out there that it is possible to have this dream and to live it. Here's to a beautiful life for you Tan, your husband and your beautiful baby 💜💜💜
