Life is hard, and certain events can be harder than others. When we experience such difficult situations, your mind has particular ways to defend itself. These defences can be carried forward into life, even when the trauma is past and gone. They can look odd to the outsider, but when we get to know you and what has happened to you, we can usually understand why you do what you do.

Trauma may or may not be part of your story, but I would like to invite you to keep an open mind to it. Trauma does not have to be particularly severe to be traumatic; and it has a way of hiding itself from view in plain sight! It's effects can be so subtle and automatic that we do not notice what is happening, even if we feel life is hard for no clear reason. But when we approach it gently with an open mind, it can really help us deepen our insight into our problems, and help us find more helpful ways of moving forward.
